Local Emergency Management Committee
Under the Emergency Management Act 2005, Local Governments are required to perform various tasks which assist the community to prepare, prevent, respond and recover from various emergencies.
The LEMC has plans and structures to bring together government, voluntary and private agencies in a coordinated way to deal with major emergencies that may occur within the area. These plans cover a whole spectrum of emergency needs, including prevention, preparedness, response and recovery.
This committee is made up from representatives from the Shire, Roadwise, Western Power, Police, St John Ambulance, Wagin Volunteer Fire Brigade, Bushfire Brigade, Woolorama, Wagin Hospital, Wagin District High School, Office of Crime Prevention, FESA and the Department for Child Protection.
LEMC meets as needed and the objectives of the committee are:
- To advise and assist the shires in ensuring that local emergency arrangements are established for its district.
- To liaise with public authorities and other persons in the development, review and testing of the Local Emergency Management Arrangements.
- To assist with the preparation and approval of the Local Emergency Management Arrangements and submit such plans to the District Emergency Management Committee (DEMC) for approval.
- To prepare an annual report of the activities of the committee for submission to DEMC.
- To carry out other such emergency management functions as directed by the DEMC.
